Where is the Best Carvery in Rhyl?

15 August 2024

If your Sunday isn’t complete unless you have had the chance to enjoy a traditional British roast dinner, then you will be delighted to know that there are a number of eateries located close to Marine Holiday Park that can lay claim to offering the best carvery in Rhyl.

We thought we’d make your search for that elusive Sunday dinner a little bit easier by highlighting the two options that we believe are in contention for this outright crown, with the final choice ultimately coming down to your preferences and day of the week.

Also included in our post are a couple of other pubs just outside of Rhyl which are still worthy of consideration if you are in need of a good quality carvery and aren’t too concerned about taking a short drive down the coast. But first, let’s get to our Rhyl carveries…

The Sun Verge

Marston’s pubs are renowned for the quality of their carvery’s, and we are lucky enough to have one right on our doorstep here in Rhyl.

Situated on the East Parade alongside Rhyl’s golden beach, The Sun Verge offers diners the chance to enjoy an excellent carvery amidst the invigorating sea air. You can choose from the usual roast options including turkey, beef and honey roast ham. This is of course alongside your usual veggie additions such as cauliflower, peas and carrots.

There are three different tiers of carvery to choose from, each of which varies depending upon the range of side dishes that are available to you. With the bronze option you can pick up a sausage roll, pork pie, crisps or pickled onions. The silver option expands this list to include chicken wings, garlic bread, garlic mushrooms and chips. When you go with the gold level option meanwhile, you can add onion rings, chicken goujons and even nachos to that list of extras.

Once you’ve enjoyed your carvery, you can then take the short jaunt over to the Rhyl seafront and burn off a couple of carvery calories on a coastal walk.

Sandy Cove Club

Another pub offering a cracking carvery in Rhyl is the Sandy Cove Club on Foryd Road. Available between 12pm and 5:30pm on a Sunday only, this is a very traditional carvery without the mountains of extras that are available at the Sun Verge pub.

Nevertheless, the food here is exceptionally high quality and perhaps surpasses that which is available at the Sun Verge. With fluffy mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, and crispy roast potatoes, it does all the basics perfectly without those extravagant add ons.

It should also be noted that the pub serves a wide selection of beers with traditional favourites such as Coors and Carling, alongside slightly more unusual options such as Madri Spanish beer which is certainly worthy of a trial for lager lovers.

Options Outside of Rhyl

If you are willing to travel slightly further afield, then you’ll find that there are a number of tasty carvery’s near Rhyl to take into consideration as well. One of the closest is the CookHouse which is situated right next to the train station in Prestatyn.

This is just over 5 miles away from Marine Holiday Park and unlike the Sandy Cove Club, the carvery is available 7 days a week between the hours of 12pm and 8pm. Meat options here again include turkey, beef or gammon alongside Yorkshire puddings, sage and onion stuffing and pigs in blankets all year round!

The CookHouse is the perfect family pub as it features its own children’s play area and an additional menu consisting of gastro pub classics for those who aren’t in the carvery mood.

Another restaurant to take into consideration which is located approximately 7 miles from our resort is the Bells of St. Mary’s in Gronant. This is part of the Stonehouse Restaurant group and if you’ve ever dined in a Stonehouse restaurant you may already be aware that they offer a very similar range of carvery options to the aforementioned eateries. However, their vegetarian alternatives are slightly more varied including a plant based chicken breast and a tasty camembert & root vegetable bake.

As with the CookHouse, the Bells of St Mary’s also has a children’s play area and a range of non-carvery menu options, the highlight of which are their stone baked pizzas which are made freshly on-site.

Eating at Marine Holiday Park

Of course, there are plenty of eating options available to you at Marine Holiday Park as well. This includes our mouth watering burgers at Burger Bay in addition to our breakfast and lunch options at the poolside Mermaid’s Café. This is the perfect place to boost your energy levels after completing a few lengths of our heated indoor swimming pool.
