04 July 2024

Rhyl is the perfect family seaside holiday destination, with a rich history for creating magical holiday memories for countless generations of British holidaymakers.

One of the great things about Rhyl is that you don’t have to break the bank in order to have a good time. In fact, there are plenty of fun free things to do in Rhyl for families who are looking to holiday on a budget.

Times are hard, and we are keen to do our bit to help our customers find ways to keep their Rhyl holidays affordable. That is why we have put together a list of what we consider to be the 5 best free things to do in Rhyl which genuinely has something to offer all ages.

1. Head to the Beach
No visit to Rhyl would be complete without a visit to its iconic beach which has proven to be a draw for families for generations.

Irrespective of whether you are a retired couple looking to relive old memories or a young family looking to create new ones with your own children, Rhyl beach is the perfect destination for a traditional British seaside holiday experience.

Stretching for almost two miles, the main Rhyl beach offers soft sand for building sandcastles and open waters for a good old fashioned paddle. You can even take your dog there, but be sure to keep them on a lead at all times.

2. Enjoy a Stroll
If you aren’t one for sitting in one place for too long, then you can still make the most of the seaside vistas by taking a walk along the Rhyl promenade.

Part of the North Wales coastal path, you can complete as short or as long a walk as you like. Take in the stunning sea views and breath in the salty sea air on a promenade which is almost entirely flat. There is also plenty of seating available along the way which is ideal for those who struggle to walk large distances.

3. Get On Your Bike
If you aren't one for sitting in one place and also don’t care too much for walking, then you may prefer to enjoy a bike ride on the Rhyl Promenade.

As we have mentioned, the Rhyl promenade is connected to the North Wales coastal path giving you plenty of options when it comes to the length of your route. You’ll be able to cycle down to the nearby seaside town of Prestatyn or head in the opposite direction to Llandudno which is another destination that is well worth a visit the next time you are enjoying a holiday in Rhyl at Marine Lake.

4. Have a Crack at Crabbing
Crabbing is becoming an increasingly popular pastime for families who are striving to find new activities which don’t cost the earth. All you need is a bucket, net, crabbing line and your bait in order to have hours of fun with the kids and introduce them to the joys of fishing.

One of the best locations to try crabbing in Rhyl is Marine Lake, a man made lake where you can also enjoy the sights and sounds of the old miniature steam railway in operation.

Marine Lake is located a little over a mile away from our Marine Holiday Park, making it the ideal destination for families who are looking to fill a few hours. It is also a lovely walking spot, with a short route which takes you right around the circumference of the lake.

5. Gawk at the Gardens
Another attraction which is little over a mile away from Marine Holiday Park, but this time in the opposite direction, are the magnificent Rhyl Botanical Gardens.

This community run park was opened in 1877, and still continues to offer Rhyl residents and holiday makers with a beautiful and peaceful location in which to enjoy a gentle walk as you admire the beautiful floral displays that the local volunteers have worked so tirelessly to maintain.

There is now even a children’s play area here which is sure to keep your little ones entertained for a couple of hours as you soak up the scenery.
