Best Things To Do In Rhyl With Dogs

11 July 2024

If you have purchased one of our pet friendly holiday homes for sale in Rhyl at Marine Holiday Park, then you’ll no doubt be looking for things to do in the local area with your four legged companion.

Thankfully, there is a wealth of great attractions and activities on offer in this famous seaside town for dog owners with everything from relaxing seaside walks to pet friendly cafes and shops.

There can be no doubt that North Wales is a pet loving paradise, and we’ve utilised our knowledge of the local area to put together a list of what we consider to be the top 5 best things to do in Rhyl with dogs for those of you who are staying in your holiday home with a furry family member. Without further delay, let's get to number one…

1. Rhyl Beach

You can’t have a holiday in Rhyl without paying a visit to its famous beach, and thankfully your pet is welcome to join you.

During the off-peak periods of the year, the entire length of Rhyl beach is completely dog friendly providing you with ample space in which to play fetch or let your pooch have a swim in the sea!

However, during peak season there are restrictions in place when it comes to the parts of the beach that your dog is welcome. During these periods you must make sure that you restrict your activities to between the Kite Surf Café on the promenade and the sailing club at Prestatyn’s aptly named Barkby beach.

2. Grab a Bite to Eat

There are plenty of great pet friendly restaurants in Rhyl that are well worth trying the next time you are staying in the area.

The aforementioned Kite Surf Café on the seafront is one such example. In keeping with their water sport associations, the café serves a range of relatively healthy foods which aren’t lacking on flavour. This includes their Greek flatbread and naked beef & chorizo burrito, both of which are simply out of this world. There are however pizzas, dirty fries and full English tiger rolls available if you are not too bothered about the calories.

If you would prefer something sweet, then we’d recommend heading down to Batch on the Cei Marina Retail Park which provides seating outdoors for pet owners. Here you can choose from a selection of ice creams, milkshakes and sundaes. You even have the option to create your own crepe and waffle combinations where you can mix your favourite ice cream flavours with chocolates, sweets or even spreads such as Nutella and peanut butter.

3. Maine Lake

Situated right across the road from Batch is the wonderful Marine Lake, a 12 hectare plot of land which revolves around the man made lake at its centre.

Here you can satisfy all members of the family as you can enjoy a scenic walk with your pet around the lake, treat your kids to a ride on the fantastic miniature railway or even enjoy a spot of crabbing where you can introduce your children to the joys of fishing.

4. Rhyl Botanical Gardens

If you’ve already done Marine Lake and fancy a bit of a change of scenery, then why not head to Rhyl Botanical Gardens?

This is a community run park which first opened its gates in 1877. Local volunteers continue to work tirelessly to maintain these beautiful gardens where you can admire a wide variety of colourful plant life as you stroll around with your pooch. In fact, so beautiful is this Victorian park that Rhyl recently took silver in the Britain in Bloom competition.

However, Rhyl Botanical Gardens is about far more than just trees and flowers. The park is also home to a children’s play area, bowling green and café which is also pet friendly.

5. Shopping

Your dog might not enjoy this one quite as much as the four other activities on this list, but you can undertake a little retail therapy with your pooch by your side as there are a number of pet friendly shops in the town to take advantage of.

This includes Alan’s Bookstall on Wellington Road which sells second hand books and jigsaws, making it the perfect place to source your latest holiday read. Another option is the neighbouring S&B Jewellery which sells a wide selection of (you guessed it) jewellery for both men and women.

Slightly further out of the main town you can source all of your dogs' needs from your local Pets at Home on the Clwyd Retail Park.
