Best Theme Parks in North Wales
If you are looking for theme parks in North Wales for a day of uncompromising fun, then you’ll find that there are plenty of fun family attractions to consider in the region. Many of these are located close to Marine Holiday Park, giving you plenty of options to choose from the next time you are staying with us at a seaside resort.
To help make your search a little easier, we’ve put together what we consider to be the best theme parks in North Wales based on our own personal experiences. Let’s start off with one which is particularly well suited to families with small children.
1. GreenWood Family Park (Y Felinheli, Gwynedd)
Located roughly a 45 minute drive away from Marine Holiday Park is the exceptional GreenWood Family Park in Y Felinheli near Bangor.
This isn’t just the best theme park in North Wales, but it is also considered to be the most eco friendly theme park in the whole of the UK. Here you will be able to take advantage of a number of nature themed attractions and rides, all of which are powered by environmentally friendly means of propulsion. The Solar Splash ride for instance is the UKs only solar powered water ride.
Another eco-friendly ride on-site is the Green Dragon Roller Coaster which is the world’s only people powered rollercoaster. The energy used by the queueing guests when they are climbing the stairs to the ride is transferred to the roller coaster, meaning that it is their efforts which will propel them along the 250 metre track! There are plenty of other eco-friendly rides to take advantage of at a North Wales theme park which would probably be Greta Thunberg’s first choice if she was ever looking for a fun day out.
However, GreenWood Family Park is much more than just a theme park, it is also one of the best zoos in North Wales. Whilst visiting, young kids are sure to love the small animal petting zoo and Forest Ranger activities where children will learn how to make a bug hotel.
2. Zip World Slate Caverns (Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd)
Zip World has been one of the best things to happen to North Wales in a long time, with there now being 5 different Zip World theme parks to take advantage of in the region around Marine Holiday Park.
Perhaps the best of these Zip World theme parks in North Wales for families is located in the disused slate mines of Blaenau Ffestiniog. This is the only one of their theme parks which is ideal in all weather conditions, with the majority of the activities and attractions on-site being located in the underground caves, safe from whatever the weather has to throw at us.
Here you’ll find the world’s first underground trampoline based attraction called ‘Bounce Below’ which covers an area twice the size of St. Paul’s Cathedral. For something that the whole family can get involved in, you can also take advantage of the world’s first underground crazy golf course.
Older kids and adults with nerves of steel may instead prefer the above ground Titan 2 zip line where you will fly through the air at speeds of over 50mph. If you do manage to keep your eyes open, then you’ll enjoy glorious views overlooking the Snowdonia region.
3. Zip World Fforest (Betws-y-Coed, Conwy)
Another Zip World theme park in North Wales which is located less than 45 minutes away from Marine Holiday Park is Zip World Fforest in Betws-y-Coed. This one is a little more dependent on the weather, but should you have a clear day there are plenty of above ground attractions to take advantage of.
This includes the Fforest Coaster toboggan style rollercoaster, Skyride (Europe’s highest giant swing) and Tree Top Nets which is effectively a trampoline park mixed with netted walkways high above the trees. It’s certainly not suitable for those who suffer from a fear of heights. This is great for kids of all ages, with children over the age of 3 welcome to take part as long as they are with an adult.
4. Gypsy Wood Park (Bontnewydd, Gwynedd)
The enchanting Gypsy Wood Park is the perfect fairy-tale theme park in North Wales for younger children. As with GreenWood Family Park, this attraction is part theme park and part animal park, with a petting zoo section where children will have the opportunity to meet the resident ponies, alpacas, donkeys, goats, pigs and rabbits. During peak periods, visitors will also get to experience the pig feeding sessions and spectate at the thrilling goat races.
There are plenty of other attractions on-site which are perfect for younger children including the mini train ride, maze, mini quarry diggers, musical treehouse, hide and seek style tunnels and much more. You will also see various whimsical characters scattered across the resort, providing a bit more of an interactive element for children.
All of this is without mentioning the various play areas, didi go-karts, fairy hunt and mini zip-wire. Gypsy Wood Park is unquestionably the best theme park in North Wales for families with smaller children, providing you with everything they will need for a fun day out.
5. Knightly’s Fun Park (Towyn, Denbighshire)
Located just over 3 miles away from Marine Holiday Park is Knightly’s Fun Park in Towyn. This is your classic seaside amusement park with traditional fairground rides, amusement arcades and live entertainment.
Other typical activities to take advantage of on-site include a carousel, bumper cars and choice of roller coasters including ‘The Freakout’ where you will be flying high into the air on a ride which certainly isn’t for the faint hearted.
Alongside the traditional amusement arcades, there are now also virtual reality games now available in keeping with developments in the gaming community. Knightly’s Fun Park genuinely has something for children, and adults, of all ages.
Things to do at Marine Holiday Park
Of course this is without mentioning the many fun children’s activities and attractions that we have available to holiday home owners and holiday makers staying at Marine Holiday Park.
Whilst staying with us you will enjoy access to our very own traditional seaside amusement arcades, choice of children’s play areas, pirate themed indoor swimming pool and children’s activity programme. With so much to do on-site, you’ll have no need to head off site in order to find things to do for families in Rhyl.
