Best Seaside Towns in North Wales
If you are looking to enjoy a traditional British seaside holiday, then you would be wise to consider heading towards North Wales. The region is awash with a plethora of vibrant seaside towns; some of which are perfect for those who want to roll back the years, and others which have very much moved on with the times.
We used our knowledge of the local area, which includes countless days out, to put together what we consider to be the best seaside towns in North Wales that you really should consider visiting the next time you are in the area. The first one might be slightly predictable…
1. Rhyl
As you will no doubt be aware, Marine Holiday Park is located in the popular family holiday destination of Rhyl in North Wales. The destination is famous for its soft, sandy beaches, amazing amusement arcades and countless number of children’s attractions.
Our resort is located close to Marine Lake, where you will find the whimsical miniature railway which is a must visit for those looking for ways to keep the kids entertained. Alternatively, take the short walk down to the coast and take advantage of the amusement arcades or build a sandcastle or two with your little ones.
There are even plenty of activities to do in the rain whilst staying in Rhyl too, with the new SC2 centre being home to a thrilling water park and ninja assault course. Quite simply, Rhyl is the perfect family holiday destination!
2. Llandudno
Offering a slightly different pace of life is Llandudno which will probably appeal more to a slightly older demographic. This seaside town in North Wales is famous for being home to the only remaining cable operated tramway in the UK. You can take this tram all the way to the top of the Great Orme which affords stunning views of the surrounding region.
If you prefer remaining on flatter land, then you can enjoy a scenic walk along the beautiful promenade which leads onto Llandudno's popular pier. Here you will find a selection of eating establishments, amusement arcades, children’s fairground rides and quirky shops including a store which sells remarkable lifelike models from all your favourite geeky TV shows.
The main town meanwhile is a shopper's paradise, with countless popular high street brands mixed in with quirky regional outlets and gift shops where you can buy that all important rock candy.
3. Caernarfon
Slightly further afield for those staying at Maine Holiday Park is roughly a 1 hour drive away from our resort. This seaside town is famous for its magnificent castle; an 11th century fortification which dominates the town's coastline and is well worth paying a visit.
Caernarfon is situated on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait right across the Anglesey. You can take advantage of a number of different Menai Strait leisure cruises from the town's harbour, many of which will provide you with a complete guide to the many wonders that exist along that particular section of the North Wales coast.
There is also plenty to appeal to children in the Caernarfon area, with one of the most popular being the Gypsy Wood Park where kids can jump on board a miniature railway, explore a musical treehouse, meet the cute on-site animals and much more.
4. Colwyn Bay
Another seaside town in North Wales which is slightly closer to our Marine Holiday Park is Colwyn Bay. The Colwyn Bay Promenade has recently undergone a multi-million pound redevelopment to create one of the most modern seafronts in the area. With wide walking and cycling routes, the promenade is also interspersed with plenty of seating for those who struggle to walk long distances. This includes a number of seats with charging points so that you can enjoy the coastline as you work.
Colwyn Bay is also one of the watersports capitals of North Wales, with sailing, jet skiing, surfing and even wild swimming all becoming increasingly popular pastimes at the venue. Kids meanwhile are sure to have hours of fun on the delightful beach which is perfect for families.
If you fancy a bite to eat, there are also plenty of options available here too. This includes the Bryn Williams Restaurant which is run by the famous Michelin starred chef that the eatery is named in deference to.
5. Pwllheli
This one is slightly out of the way if you are staying with us at Marine Holiday Park being roughly a 1.5 hour drive from our resort. However, if you are not too concerned about the length of the drive then it is well worth a day trip.
Pwllheli is a great location for scenic walks, with two lovely beaches and a delightful seafront promenade. The shingled south beach extends all the way to Gimblet Rock where you will find our newest sister park!
Only a small section of the beach does not permit dogs, with the rest being completely dog friendly all year round. Pwllheli is unquestionably one of the best dog friendly beaches in North Wales as it offers stunning views and plenty of pet friendly local eating establishments along the way.
