Best Family Days Out in North Wales
North Wales is the perfect family holiday destination, with there being fabulous attractions and things to do for people of all ages. Irrespective of whether you are 8, 48 or even 80, there is sure to be something to do in the region that will appeal come rain or shine.
With many of the holiday makers and holiday home owners staying at Marine Holiday Park being part of a family, we thought it might be helpful if we were to list what we consider to be the top 5 best days out in North Wales for families, so that you can turn up for your next family break with a clear idea of what you are going to be doing on each day of your trip. Let’s start off with one that is right on your holiday park doorstep:
1. SC2 - Rhyl
If you had a holiday in Rhyl during the 1990s, you will no doubt remember the Sun Life Centre which at the time was one of the best waterparks in the country. Sadly, this popular attraction is no more, but in its place we have its much improved successor in the form of the SC2.
Located on the Rhyl seafront, this fabulous family waterpark will appeal to kids of all ages with all manner of thrilling slides, a tamer pool for smaller children and even an outdoor splash pad. While it is mainly aimed at children, there is nothing to stop young hearted adults having fun here too.
Alongside the waterpark, the SC2 also has its own Ninja Tag, a multi level assault course which takes on the very best concepts from the Total Wipeout and Ninja Warrior TV Shows. There is also a soft play centre for younger children, providing families with the perfect all weather attraction which is located just a short walk away from Marine Holiday Park.
2. Zip World - Llechwedd
There are numerous Zip World sites across the North Wales region, but the one which really stands out as a bit of a family favourite is located underground in the caves of Llechwedd. Here you will find a fun trampoline based activity named bounce below, the world’s first underground crazy golf course and a challenging cavern based zip line climbing challenge which requires plenty of strength and nerves of steel.
As you can see, there are activities here to appeal to all ages. While we wouldn’t recommend the cavern climbing activity to those with smaller children, there are plenty of other things to keep young families entertained. The fact that most of this is underground also means that unlike other Zip World sites it is perfect for family days out in North Wales whatever the weather.
3. Anglesey Sea Zoo - Brynsiencyn, Anglesey
If it is an all weather attraction you are looking for, for a family day out in North Wales then you may want to consider the Anglesey Sea Zoo. Located just outside the village of Brynsiencyn on Anglesey, the zoo is home to over 150 native species of sea life with everything from the fair common Plaice and Sea Bass, through to the completely alien looking Moon Jellyfish and Sea Squirts.
On days where the weather is on your side, you may want to take on the crazy golf course with the rest of the family or let the kids have some fun on the pirate themed water jet blaster. There is even a well regarded cafe on-site, so you can make a real day of it with hot and cold food available from 10am till 4pm each day.
4. Welsh Mountain Zoo - Colwyn Bay
Another zoo, but this one is located less than 30 minutes away from Marine Holiday Park. Welsh Mountain Zoo is unquestionably one of the best zoos in Wales with a collection of roughly 80 different species of animal spread over 37 acres of parkland.
There is a real varied collection of animals here made up of big cats, monkeys, bears and much more. If you are visiting with small children, you will also be able to visit the children’s farm where you will have the opportunity to feed and pet small animals such as rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs and ducks.
Throughout the day you will be able to take in a number of talks from the experts, feeding sessions and the absolutely fantastic penguin parade where the birds waddle through the public areas in pursuit of treats.
5. Conwy Castle - Conwy
North Wales is filled with historic wonders which provide fascinating insights into the lives of our ancestors. One of the most fascinating of these sites is Conwy Castle which is located roughly 30 minutes away from Marine Holiday Park.
This has been described by UNESCO as one of the finest examples of late 13th century military architecture in Europe and has been classed as a World Heritage Site. Built by King Edward I during his conquest of Wales, the castle played a fundamental role in regional politics including being temporarily captured by forces loyal to Wales’ Owain Glyndŵr in 1401.
Despite being slighted by the Parliamentarians in the aftermath of the English Civil War, the castle remains a site to behold and will provide tourists of all ages with a fascinating insight into the history of our country. Whatsmore, the views afforded from the top of the towers are simply breathtaking.
With countless other attractions available across the market town including Britain’s Smallest House, a retro toy shop and some sensational eateries, Conwy really is a great destination for family days out in North Wales.
